- California’s SB 253 requires qualifying companies doing business in California with annual revenue above $1 billion to publicly disclose their greenhouse gas emissions. The first reporting deadline is August 10, 2026, covering Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, with Scope 3 reporting following in 2027.

- XBRL US developed the State GHG Emissions (SGHG) Taxonomy as a California-specific entry point to the ISSB Taxonomy for SB-253 reporting. While not yet mandatory, XBRL format is strongly recommended and expected to become standard as the regulation matures.
